UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 23, 2015
The Board of Education has formed the Safer Schools Committee to review the district's security protocols. Board members, district staff and representatives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Hillsborough Police Department will review school safety plans and procedures and make recommendations to the full Board of Education.
In April, Orange County Schools will be working with Safe Haven, nationally recognized experts on school safety, to conduct a comprehensive safety assessment. Each of the district's schools will be thoroughly evaluated and provide staff with a detailed report on ways to increase the safety of our students. These findings will be added to the district's current Capital Investment Plans (CIP). Orange County Schools has already allocated nearly one million dollars for security upgrades over the course of the next decade, as well as additional funding from this current year's budget.
