Environmental Health and Safety

Departmental Vision Statement

Students and employees will learn and work in a school district of continually improving safety awareness and environmental health.

Departmental Mission Statement

Orange County Schools will promote a safe and healthful environment for employees and students so that work and learning are achieved while minimizing risk by:

  • Enhancing the quality of environmental health and safety through staff development training in New Employee Orientation
  • Classroom trainings for special groups
  • Crisis Response Management
  • Guiding workplace safety to reduce injury and workmen’s compensation costs through workplace hazard assessments, accident investigations, monthly Safe Environment meetings and trainings

The Board of Education has formed the Safer Schools Committee to review the district's security protocols.   Board members, district staff and representatives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Hillsborough Police Department will review school safety plans and procedures and make recommendations to the full Board of Education.

In April, Orange County Schools will be working with Safe Havennationally recognized experts on school safetyto conduct a comprehensive safety assessment.  Each of the district's schools will be thoroughly evaluated and provide staff with a detailed report on ways to increase the safety of our students.   These findings will be added to the district's current Capital Investment Plans (CIP).   Orange County Schools has already allocated nearly one million dollars for security upgrades over the course of the next decade, as well as additional funding from this current year's budget.
