Going the Distance in Innovation Award for Child Nutrition Services

GREENSBORO, NC 6 NOVEMBER 2017- Orange County Schools (OCS) has been awarded the Going the Distance in Innovation Award by the North Carolina Department of Instruction and No Kid Hungry NC.  To be eligible for the award,  the OCS Child Nutrition Services department had to demonstrate that it implemented innovative concepts and increased participation in the OCS Summer Food Service Program. The number of meals served in the OCS Summer Food program has increased in each of the past four years. Orange County ranks 5th in the state for meeting the needs of students during the 2017 Summer Nutrition program.

Orange County Schools will continue to seek innovative ways to reach more students during the summer months to provide them with nutritious meals while school is not in session. “The goal of the Orange County Schools Child Nutrition Services is to provide quality meals during the school year and during the summer months,” offered Child Nutrition Services Director Valerie Green.  “The Child Nutrition staff are very committed to making sure all children of Orange County Schools are feed on a daily basis,” added Ms. Green.
