The Orange County Schools Board of Education has received Superintendent Todd Wirt’s resignation, effective June 30, 2019. The Board appreciates Dr. Wirt’s passion and dedication to the teaching and learning of all of our Orange County Schools students. Dr. Wirt played a leadership role in many of the school system’s innovations, including the adoption of the Board’s Equity Policy. Dr. Wirt cares deeply about students, and he will be missed. We wish him the best moving forward.
“I will forever be grateful to the members of the Board of Education, both past and present, who entrusted me with the leadership of Orange County Schools,” offered Superintendent Wirt. “I am most grateful to all of the faculty and staff for their hard work, dedication, and willingness to change: the work you do for our students is second to none,” concluded Superintendent Wirt.
To assure continued leadership at the top, the Board will promptly enlist the expertise of the North Carolina School Boards Association to launch a search for our next superintendent. As part of the search process, the Board will seek input from all aspects of our school system and community.
