Orange County Schools wins A.J. Fletcher beautification award

GARNER, NC 30 SEPTEMBER 2017- Each year, NC Beautiful, the Capitol Broadcasting Company, and WRAL-TV5 partner together to make thousands of azalea plants available to non-profit organizations across the state who wish to beautify their grounds. This year, Orange County Schools (OCS) earned the A.J. Fletcher Award for maintaining and sustaining its azaleas on school grounds. OCS was awarded second place among all organizations in the state for sustaining the original landscape project given to the school system three years ago. With the award, OCS received 50 (fifty) new azaleas, $250 cash, and gardening tools for the upkeep of the azaleas.

The azaleas are propagated from the WRAL gardens, a project of the late A.J. Fletcher, a founder of WRAL. To date, NC Beautiful has  awarded more than 250,000 plants to over 3,000 non-profit organizations statewide.
