Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year Named for Orange County Schools

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 29 OCTOBER 2019- Orange County Schools (OCS) is proud to announce that Ms. Minnie Goins is the OCS Principal of the Year for 2019-20 and that Dr. Judith Brantley is the Assistant Principal of the Year for 2019-20. Ms. Goins is the Principal at Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary School, and Dr. Brantley is an Assistant Principal at Orange High School.

Ms. Goins began her career in education as a fourth grade teacher in the Chatham County Schools system. After serving students in the classroom for eight years, Ms. Goins became an elementary school assistant principal in 2004. In the winter of 2016, Ms. Goins joined Orange County Schools as an assistant principal at Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary, and she became the principal there in the summer of 2018. 

For those that know Ms. Goins, earning Principal of the Year is a natural culmination of her dedication and hard work.  Principal Goins stated, “It is truly an honor and my charge daily to demonstrate servant leadership in action. Education has been that avenue for me to partner with all stakeholders as we work to develop and enhance everyone within our learning community. I am humbled to be entrusted with the essential task of growing future leaders.” 

Dr. Brantley began her teaching career in National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan in 1994.  She spent 1995-1997 working at Cebu International School, Cebu, Philippines before coming to North Carolina to teach in 2001.  She came to Orange County Schools in 2013 as an assistant principal at Orange High School.

Developing positive relationships with students and helping them grow are priorities for Dr. Brantley. “I am passionate about equity in education and developing positive, productive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, and community members,” imparted Dr. Brantley
