Local Student Winner in State-wide Art Competition
RALEIGH, NC – Tyler Wood was one of six winners in the 2017 Young Artists Competition sponsored by Professional Educators of North Carolina (PENC). Tyler was in first grade at Hillsborough Elementary School in Hillsborough, NC when he created the winning artwork. Mr. Wood was recognized at an award ceremony at the Hampton Inn & Suites – Raleigh Crabtree Valley on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Tyler was awarded a certificate of achievement and a cash prize of $50 and his art teacher, Mike Oechsle will receive a gift of appreciation by mail as he was unable to attend. Mr. Wood’s work will appear in upcoming PENC publications. Each year, PENC selects winning entries from elementary, middle, and high school submissions. The goal of this competition is to highlight the hard work of North Carolina’s visual art teachers and their students.
