Orange County Schools Superintendent Search Applications Received

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 8 JULY 2019- The Orange County Schools Board of Education is pleased to announce that the deadline to submit applications to serve as the school system’s next superintendent has passed and applications have been received.  The Board received 31 applications from 14 different states and the District of Columbia. The applications will be processed by the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) and released to the Board on or before July 22.


Dr. Chris Gammon Named Executive Director of Curriculum

The Orange County Schools Board of Education has approved Dr. Chris Gammon as the Executive Director of Curriculum. Dr. Gammon was formerly the principal at Gravelly Hill Middle School, and his new position will elevate him to become a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet.

Given Dr. Gammon's presence and leadership in the district, he is looking forward to hitting the ground running with his new role. "I'm humbled by the opportunity and look forward to continuing the great work we are doing in Orange County Schools on behalf of all students," remarked Dr. Gammon.


Orange County Schools Welcomes Its first Chief Equity Officer

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 4 JUNE 2019-  Beginning on July 1st, Orange County Schools will welcome its first Chief Equity Officer. The Board of Education voted to approve Dr. Dena Keeling as the Chief Equity Officer of Orange County Schools (OCS). The position is new to the district, and the creation of the position is another milestone in the district’s efforts in embrace equity.


C.W. Stanford Middle School Teacher Awarded Kenan Fellowship

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 4 JUNE 2019- Mr. Daniel Thayer has been awarded a fellowship for the 2019-2020 cohort of Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership. This cohort of K‒12 teachers from across the state was selected from a highly qualified applicant pool of 85 educators following a competitive application process. Mr. Thayer is an Academically/Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Specialist at C.W. Stanford Middle School.


Orange County School Board Seeks Public Input on Superintendent Search

The Orange County Board of Education voted on May 6th to hire the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) to help facilitate its search for the next superintendent of the Orange County Schools (OCS). To that end, the board is seeking direct input from interested members of the staff and community to help shape the search process and assist in defining the qualities and characteristics of the next OCS superintendent. The following avenues for input are available to the community and staff:


Student Art Show!

Come enjoy some great art from our OCS students at the Orange County Public Library.  The work will be displayed May 4th - May 28th.  There will be an open house on May 4, between 10:00 a.m. and 12 p.m.  The library is located at 137 W. Margaret Lane in Hillsborough.


Orange County Schools to Search for a new Superintendent

The Orange County Schools Board of Education has received Superintendent Todd Wirt’s resignation, effective June 30, 2019.  The Board appreciates Dr. Wirt’s passion and dedication to the teaching and learning of all of our Orange County Schools students.  Dr. Wirt played a leadership role in many of the school system’s innovations, including the adoption of the Board’s Equity Policy. Dr. Wirt cares deeply about students, and he will be missed.  We wish him the best moving forward.
