Immigration and Orange County Schools Q &A

  1. Do I have to disclose my or my child’s immigration status in order to enroll in Orange County Schools?
No. We do not ask or inquire about you or your child’s immigration status to enroll in the school system. Immigration status of a child has no impact regarding the constitutional right to have equal access to public education.

  2. Do I have to be a US citizen to enroll my child in school?
No. You must be a resident of Orange County, and you must be domiciled and have proof of residency within the district to enroll in the Orange County Schools.

Board of Education Moves to Pass a District Equity Policy

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 28 JANUARY 2019- The Orange County Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a new Equity Policy for the district. The equity policy was on the agenda for what is known as the first read. A policy must pass a vote at a second reading to become a part of the district policy manual. The first vote on the policy was 7-0 by the members of the Board, which ensures that the policy will move forward to be a part of the manual.
