The Hands for Habitat Partnership is engaging students in Orange County Schools in an ambitious service learning project designed to increase awareness of issues surrounding housing and affordability. Hands for Habitat began during the 2009-2010 school year and continues with three main components:
- Building: Construction classes from Orange High School build a green-certified home in the Fairview Community of Hillsborough, NC.
- Curriculum: Classrooms at various grade levels throughout the district utilize lessons and service learning activities focused on housing issues that affect our community and world.
- Fundraising: Schools, classrooms, and Habitat/service clubs join with businesses and organizations in the community to raise money for the construction of the Hands for Habitat home.
