HILLSBOROUGH, NC 20 NOVEMBER 2017- The Orange County Schools Board of Education debuted the initial discussion regarding the formation of a Business Advisory Council at the November 20th, 2017 Board meeting work session. The purpose of the Business Advisory Council is to assist the Board in the performance of its duty to provide career and technical education instruction, activities, and services.
The Business Advisory Council will serve the Board by identifying economic and workforce development trends related to the training and educational needs of the community. Also, the advisory council will advocate for strong, lasting local career and technical education programs. These programs will include work-based learning opportunities for students and prepare students for post-high school certifications and credentials for high-demand careers.
“We are looking forward to having a council that is active and has its pulse on what our students and graduates will need to compete for solid jobs,” offered Mr. Jason Johnson, Executive Director of Secondary Education for Orange County Schools. “The formation of the council furthers our strategic vision to work with the business communities and community leaders,” added Mr. Johnson.
The Business Advisory Council will be an agenda item for the Board of Education meeting on December 11, 2017. During that meeting, the Board will vote on the initial appointees to the advisory council.
