Normal Schedule Monday, September 17th

Orange County Schools will resume a normal schedule tomorrow for school and work. All of our schools are cleared to open, but please be aware that bus routes may require additional time tomorrow morning. We will monitor the conditions throughout the night and the morning. If a change needs to be made, we will alert you as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you at school tomorrow.

Hurricane Florence School closing September 2018

Due to impending hazardous weather related conditions that may arise due to Hurricane Florence, Orange County Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 13th and Friday, September 14th for students and staff. Early reports indicate the possibility for dangerous weather, sustained high winds, flooding,  property damage, and power outages. Weather events related to hurricanes can be unpredictable. Please take necessary precautions to ensure your safety and your family’s safety.

A regular school schedule will be in place for Wednesday, September 12th.

School System Academic Performance for 2017-18

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 5 SEPTEMBER 2018- For school systems across the state, school performance report cards have been released for the 2017-18 school year. Because of changes to the state’s accountability measurements required under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, school grades, growth results and graduation rates for the 2017-18 school year are not comparable to past performance during the five years the state has assessed schools using A-F letter grades.

Welcome Back to School 2018-19

A message from Superintendent Dr. Todd Wirt

Summer break is officially over, and beginning tomorrow all of our students will be in session for the 2018-19 school year. A new school  year brings many new things- classes, teachers, friends, and positive memories to last a lifetime. We could not be more excited to have our traditional calendar students begin school on Monday.  Our staff has spent the summer preparing for 2018-2019 to be our best school year yet in Orange County.

Cedar Ridge High School Welcomes New Principal

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 2 AUGUST 2018- Effective August 6th, Ms. Intisar Hamidullah will take the lead as Interim Principal at Cedar Ridge High School. Ms. Hamidullah assumes the role of principal that was recently held by Ms. Heather Blackmon. Ms. Blackmon is taking on an instructional leadership position within the district. Currently, Ms. Hamidullah is an Assistant Principal at Cedar Ridge High School.

A Funding Misconception

We have just completed our budget process and approval for our operating budget for the 2018-2019 school year.  During the process of building the budget and communicating with the public, it became clear that there were some misconceptions regarding how charter schools are funded in Orange County.

Cedar Ridge Announces New Head Football Coach

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 24 JULY 2018- Cedar Ridge High School will have a new football coach coming into the 2018-19 school year. Mr. Antonio King has been named the Coach of the Cedar Ridge High School Football team. Currently, Coach King is the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Hargrave Military Academy (VA). Before coming to Hargrave, Coach King was the running backs coach at East Carolina University, after having garnered an outstanding career as Head Football Coach at Hillside High School (Durham).

Orange High School Teacher Named Educator Scholar

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 10 JULY 2018- Orange High School Teacher Ms. Andromeda Crowell has been named the Simon F. Terrell Honored Educator Scholar for 2018-19 by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT). The award pays tribute to outstanding educators and individuals whose teaching or influence in public education has made a positive difference in the lives of others. Ms. Crowell will receive a scholarship that covers all costs to attend an NCCAT program of her choosing. Additionally, she will receive $250 to use for her classroom.

Budget Impacts for the 2018-19 School Year

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 25 JUNE 2018- The Orange County Schools (OCS) 2018-19 budget was approved by the Board of Education on Monday night.  District staff along with the Board of Education Budget Committee have been reviewing and discussing the upcoming budget since October 2017.   The loss of the one time discretionary funding along with decreasing average daily student enrollment continues to impact the OCS budget.
