Meeting the Needs of our Community: Child Nutrition and Food Service Program

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 13 NOVEMBER 2017- Summer Food Service Programs were established by the US Department. of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) in connection with the NC Department of Instruction (NCDPI) to ensure that children in low income households continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. It is an unfortunate fact that there are students in Orange County Schools (OCS) that may not eat regularly unless school is in session.

Current High School Students Gain More Access to Their Transcripts

Orange County Schools students now have a new and more affordable way to request and send transcripts. Previously, current students incurred fees to request and send transcripts out-of-state. With a new transcript request system in place, students will not be charged to send transcripts in-state or out-of-state. Additionally, the new transcript system will allow for electronic delivery and confirmation of transcripts to colleges and universities that accept electronic delivery. OCS 2017 - 2018 Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 27 OCTOBER 2017- Orange County Schools is proud to announce that Grady A. Brown Elementary Principal Leslie Bryant has been named Orange County Schools Principal of the Year.  “It is an honor and privilege to support and serve our GAB Cougar Community. I am blessed to work with innovative and open minded individuals," Mrs. Bryant said.

2017 Student Assignment, School Choice and Options Fair

Beginning October 20th, OCS students will receive notification letters indicating the school to which they are assigned.  

November 1- The school choice application window opens for the following schools: Central Elementary, Cedar Ridge High School International Baccalaureate Programme, Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary School, and Hillsborough Elementary School. 

November 16- Options Fair at Orange County Public Library (5:30pm-7:30pm)

November 30- The school choice application window closes.

Orange County Schools wins A.J. Fletcher beautification award

GARNER, NC 30 SEPTEMBER 2017- Each year, NC Beautiful, the Capitol Broadcasting Company, and WRAL-TV5 partner together to make thousands of azalea plants available to non-profit organizations across the state who wish to beautify their grounds. This year, Orange County Schools (OCS) earned the A.J. Fletcher Award for maintaining and sustaining its azaleas on school grounds. OCS was awarded second place among all organizations in the state for sustaining the original landscape project given to the school system three years ago.

OCS Implements new School Improvement Plan Process

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 25 SEPTEMBER 2017-  Public Schools in North Carolina are required to submit a School Improvement Plan (SIP) to the local board of education for review and approval.  Local boards of education are required by federal and state regulations to review and take action on submitted  SIPs. The School Improvement Plans are written by School Improvement Teams at individual schools.
