School Safety

Safety for our students and staff is the highest priority for our school system. Students will not be able to learn and teachers will not be able to provide excellent instruction without a safe educational environment. To meet that goal, Orange County Schools (OCS) has procedures and plans in place to support a safe educational environment.

When Schools Close

The decision to close or delay schools is a weighty topic. The decision is never taken lightly. There are procedures in place to check current and predicted weather events that may have an impact on road conditions and school operations.  This includes contacting the National Weather Service, Law Enforcement, State Department of Transportation, Orange County Emergency Management, and other agencies.

Continuing the Community’s Tradition of Supporting Public Education

Students face many social and personal problems that complicate their ability to do well in school and inhibit their progress toward becoming productive citizens.  To promote  success in and out of the classroom for our students, Orange County Schools (OCS)  utilizes School Social Workers, Family Specialists (provided through a collaborative with the Orange County Department of Social Services), and a Teen Parent Social Worker.
