High School Spotlight: Korie Dean and Ryan Wallace

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 10 MARCH 2017- This week, two Orange County Schools students have been honored for their commitment to service and good citizenship. Cedar Ridge High School senior Ryan Wallace was selected for the US Senate Youth Program, and Orange High School senior Korie Dean has been named the youth recipient of the 2017 Pauli Murray Award from the Human Relations Commission of Orange County Government. Both honors are unique achievements that recognize each student’s commitment to our community and to serving others.


Cedar Ridge Student Selected for GRAMMY Awards

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 8 FEBRUARY 2017- Cedar Ridge High School student Mr. Griffin Ross has been selected for the 2017 GRAMMY Camp- Jazz Session. Only 32 students from around the United States were selected for the GRAMMY Camp, and Mr. Ross is the only student from North Carolina  to earn this honor. Students selected for this opportunity travel to Los Angeles for a 10-day experience that culminates with the GRAMMY awards program and its after-parties.


6th Annual Lego Blitz Build

Lego Blitz 2017 is coming to town on Thursday, Feb. 23rd, 3:15 - 5:00 pm at Cedar Ridge High School (1125 New Grady Brown School Road in Hillsborough). Teams of 4 (3rd-8th Graders) register online at Lego Registration. Only the team captain registers the team. Please list all team members in the registration with the team captain. Do not have each team member register online please. The deadline to register is February 17th. Registration is $5.00 per team member.



Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary Principal is Selected as Regional Principal of the Year

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 25 JANUARY 2017- Orange County Schools is proud to announce that Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary Principal Kiley Brown has been named Regional Principal of the Year (north central region) by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Ms. Brown is the current Principal of the Year for Orange County Schools, and she now moves on to compete as one of eight finalists for  North Carolina Principal of the Year.

The holiday season, beginning with the traditional Thanksgiving break, can be a time of great joy and feasting for so many families. Yet, it can be a time that serves as a continual reminder that there are so many of our brothers and sisters that are in need or in crisis. Those in need may be a close family member or relative- or a neighbor, a coworker, or even yourself.


Board of Education approves Merit-based Bonus Plan

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 15 DECEMBER 2016- The Orange County Schools Board of Education has approved a one-time merit-based bonus pay plan for non-educators working for the school system. The merit pay plan is the result of State action directing local Boards to develop and implement a one-time bonus plan. The State has provided $86,292 to fund the merit-based bonus pay plan for employees paid with State funds.


Local Board of Education Member Elected as Officer to State Board

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 6 DECEMBER 2016- Orange County Schools Board of Education member Ms. Brenda Stephens has been elected as Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA). The NCSBA is governed by a 27 member Board of Directors, led by four Officers. The Board of Directors has general charge and control of the affairs of the NCSBA. Officers and Directors are elected each November during the Delegate Assembly at the NCSBA Annual Conference.

The Orange County Schools Board of Education is considering revisions to its policy on parental involvement. The Board of Education is providing an opportunity to gather feedback about the proposed policy changes.
