2017 Student Assignment, School Choice and Options Fair

Beginning October 20th, OCS students will receive notification letters indicating the school to which they are assigned.  

November 1- The school choice application window opens for the following schools: Central Elementary, Cedar Ridge High School International Baccalaureate Programme, Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary School, and Hillsborough Elementary School. 

November 16- Options Fair at Orange County Public Library (5:30pm-7:30pm)

November 30- The school choice application window closes.


Orange County Schools wins A.J. Fletcher beautification award

GARNER, NC 30 SEPTEMBER 2017- Each year, NC Beautiful, the Capitol Broadcasting Company, and WRAL-TV5 partner together to make thousands of azalea plants available to non-profit organizations across the state who wish to beautify their grounds. This year, Orange County Schools (OCS) earned the A.J. Fletcher Award for maintaining and sustaining its azaleas on school grounds. OCS was awarded second place among all organizations in the state for sustaining the original landscape project given to the school system three years ago.


OCS Implements new School Improvement Plan Process

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 25 SEPTEMBER 2017-  Public Schools in North Carolina are required to submit a School Improvement Plan (SIP) to the local board of education for review and approval.  Local boards of education are required by federal and state regulations to review and take action on submitted  SIPs. The School Improvement Plans are written by School Improvement Teams at individual schools.


New Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning at Orange High School

In the next few days you may notice a large well drilling rig and testing apparatus in the areas close to the athletic fields at Orange High School.  This is one of the first steps to the process of designing and installing a new Geothermal Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System for the school, as funded by the bond passed by Orange County voters in November 2016.  These folks will only be on site for a week or two drilling two test wells and performing conductivity and soil testing for the site. 


Recent Announcement on Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 6 SEPTEMBER 2017- Recently, the federal government has released guidance on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  The school system cannot provide advice in terms of immigration law, but the Board of Education and the school system stands resolutely for equal access to public education for immigrant children.


Orange County Schools Makes Improvement in Growth and Achievement

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 7 SEPTEMBER 2017- On Thursday September 7, 2017, the North Carolina State Board of Education officially released achievement data for North Carolina school districts. The achievement outcomes are a result of the continued efforts by the staff and students of Orange County Schools (OCS). Efforts to improve the quality of the learning experience for all students are producing results as we continue our implementation of the district’s strategic plan.


A Message for our Families about the new Dress Code Policy

The Orange County Schools Board of Education unanimously passed a new dress code policy at its August 14th regular business meeting. Throughout the 2016-17 school year, the Board and staff have engaged in an informed process to understand the needs, challenges, and opportunities for our school system. The new dress code policy reaffirms the district’s commitment to provide our students the best possible education to prepare them for their future endeavors.
