Lara Jane Parker Award for Advocacy

Congratulations to Angie Waitt for receiving the Lara Jane Parker Award of Excellence. This award recognizes individuals who have direct instructional or therapeutic contact with a school-aged child (or children) with communication and physical challenges. The Lara Jane Parker Award is sponsored by the New Voices Foundation. The foundation's mission is to help children with severe communication and physical challenges maximize their learning potential. 


Board Resolution on K - 3 Class Size Ratios

The Orange County Schools Board of Education recently passed a resolution on K - 3 class size.  The resolution requests that the North Carolina General Assembly pass legislation as early as possible in the 2017 session to provide local school districts with the class size and funding flexibility needed to avoid the severe negative impacts.  The resolution became effective on April 10, 2017.  We encourage our families to read the full text of the resolution below:

High School Spotlight: Korie Dean and Ryan Wallace

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 10 MARCH 2017- This week, two Orange County Schools students have been honored for their commitment to service and good citizenship. Cedar Ridge High School senior Ryan Wallace was selected for the US Senate Youth Program, and Orange High School senior Korie Dean has been named the youth recipient of the 2017 Pauli Murray Award from the Human Relations Commission of Orange County Government. Both honors are unique achievements that recognize each student’s commitment to our community and to serving others.


Cedar Ridge Student Selected for GRAMMY Awards

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 8 FEBRUARY 2017- Cedar Ridge High School student Mr. Griffin Ross has been selected for the 2017 GRAMMY Camp- Jazz Session. Only 32 students from around the United States were selected for the GRAMMY Camp, and Mr. Ross is the only student from North Carolina  to earn this honor. Students selected for this opportunity travel to Los Angeles for a 10-day experience that culminates with the GRAMMY awards program and its after-parties.


6th Annual Lego Blitz Build

Lego Blitz 2017 is coming to town on Thursday, Feb. 23rd, 3:15 - 5:00 pm at Cedar Ridge High School (1125 New Grady Brown School Road in Hillsborough). Teams of 4 (3rd-8th Graders) register online at Lego Registration. Only the team captain registers the team. Please list all team members in the registration with the team captain. Do not have each team member register online please. The deadline to register is February 17th. Registration is $5.00 per team member.



Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary Principal is Selected as Regional Principal of the Year

HILLSBOROUGH, NC 25 JANUARY 2017- Orange County Schools is proud to announce that Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary Principal Kiley Brown has been named Regional Principal of the Year (north central region) by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Ms. Brown is the current Principal of the Year for Orange County Schools, and she now moves on to compete as one of eight finalists for  North Carolina Principal of the Year.
