  • Families whose domicile changes during the school year must contact their child’s school within 5 days to update the student’s records.

    In-District Domicile Change

    Families who start the year at an assigned school and whose domicile changes during the school year may:

    1) enroll at the assigned school based upon the new address, or

    2) request to remain at the current school for the remainder of the current school year only.  Contact the school for a Petition to Remain form.  Students under this provision are no longer eligible for transportation and must submit a transfer request by the district deadline to remain for any future years.

    Out-of-District Domicile Change

    Families who start the year at an assigned school and move outside of the Orange County Schools district may:

    1) enroll at the assigned school based upon the new address, or

    2) apply for Discretionary Admission for the remainder of the current school year.  If approved, required tuition will be assessed and will be payable in full immediately.  Transportation will no longer be provided.  Log into or create your parent account at Smart Choice and submit your Discretionary Admission applications.  Contact the Student Assignment Office should you have any other questions.

    Release Request

    This application is for families that are living within the areas served by the Orange County Schools that would like to be released from our school district to attend school in another school district.   

    The Release Request form for the 2019-2020 school year will be available beginning April 1, 2018.  To request a release from the Orange County Schools for the 2019-2020 school year, submit the online Release Application.  Requests for the 2019-2020 school year must be received no later than July 1, 2019. 

    Letters of Release will be sent to families via email.

    Moving In Between School Years

    In-District students who change domicile during the Summer and before the beginning of the new school year may:

    1) enroll at the assigned school based upon the new address, or

    2) request to continue attending the previously assigned school without bus transportation unless the previously assigned school is over capacity

    Students who become legally domiciled outside of the Orange County Schools district during the Summer and before the beginning of the new school year may:

    1) enroll at the assigned school based upon the new address, or

    2) apply for Discretionary Admission for the remainder of the current school year.  If approved, required tuition will be assessed and will be payable in full immediately.  Transportation will no longer be provided.  Log into or create your parent account at Smart Choice and submit your Discretionary Admission applications.  Contact the Student Assignment Office should you have any other questions.
