Student Teachers and Internships

-
Thank you for considering the Orange County School (OCS) system as the prospective site for your student teaching, internship or pre-service experience. OCS is a small district that can really take time to work and develop young teachers. We host a plethora of students from a variety of surrounding universities and universities throughout NC and the Nation.
Any student who wishes to seek a school placement with OCS must submit to an online criminal background check, including national and state sex offender checks in order to be considered for approval. The steps to complete this online process can be found with the field placement liaison for your university. All prospective pre-service, full-time interns and student teachers are required to complete this process prior to being placed in the district. Other paperwork that should be submitted if you are going to have direct contact with students is a health examination form (Pre-service students in the observation only phase do not need to submit the health examination form).
Students must work through the field placement liaison at their college or university regarding potential OCS placements. Students are not permitted to contact schools or Human Resources directly to request placements.
Affiliation Agreements
The Orange County School system is part of the Triangle Alliance, a 10-school consortium that includes: Duke University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, Elon University, and the Universities of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Greensboro. The district maintains a standing affiliation agreement with each of these institutions.
Non-Alliance institutions must agree to the district’s standard affiliation agreement. This written agreement must be finalized before consideration can be given to full-time internship and student teaching placement requests. All agreements are subject to the review and approval of the Chief Human Resource Officer.
