RECOGNITIONS

New National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) & Renewals

Numerous research studies have shown that National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) profoundly impact student outcomes. Research indicates that students taught by NBCTs achieve higher academic performance, particularly in reading and math, than their peers taught by non-certified teachers. Research shows that NBCTs will likely remain in the teaching profession and stay in their current schools longer. Studies have found that NBCTs have a retention rate of over 90% over five years, while non-NBCTs have lower retention rates, often between 70-80%. 

The National Board Certification process is designed to be a continuous learning experience. It encourages teachers to constantly evaluate and refine their teaching practices based on feedback from the assessment. The NBC process is designed to help teachers improve their teaching practices and become more accomplished in their craft, resulting in better outcomes for students.

The Board recognized the new National Board Certified Teachers and those who renewed their certification in Orange County Schools.
 

Winter Sports NCHSAA State Championship Recognition

Lewis Newman, Director of Health/PE, Athletics and Driver’s Education recognized the Orange High School Swim Team and their excellence in swimming. The team set school records and won the NCHSAA 3A State Championship in the 400 Free Relay.

Orange High School senior Luke Roman who swam in the relay championship team also won two individual NCHSAA 3A State Championships in the 200 and 500 Freestyle, taking home the title of 3A Most Outstanding Swimmer at the state finals! 

We appreciate the entire swim team from Orange High School as they performed at the highest level.

The Board approved Consent Agenda items including meeting minutes, personnel report, budget amendments, grant funding, and policies referred by the committee for approval by the full Board. To learn how the Board considers and adopts new and updated Board Policies, see Board Policy 2410.

Rhonda Rath, Chief Finance Officer presented the Superintendent’s Recommended Local Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2026.

Bond Update

This presentation by Fredrick Davis, Chief Operations Officer and Patrick Florence, Director of Construction Capital Planning provided updated information to the board on the status of the 2024 Bond Referendum Projects.
