Stay Safe During the Partial Solar Eclipse Monday, April 8

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will be visible (weather permitting) across all of North America. The entire continent will experience some form of the eclipse, lasting 2 to 3 hours, and anyone along the path from Maine to Texas will experience a brief total eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s bright face, turning day into night. In Orange County, NC, we will experience only a partial solar eclipse event that coincides with afternoon dismissal for all our schools. Our partial eclipse will begin when the moon first starts to cover the Sun around 1:58 p.m. When peak arrives at 3:29 p.m. the Sun will be 80% obscured, and the whole event will end in our area at 4:29 p.m. Learn more here and stay safe!

Second Annual OCS Night of Poetry - April 11 at Cedar Ridge High School

Join us for the Second Annual OCS Night of Poetry at Cedar Ridge High School on Thursday, April 11, starting at 6:00 p.m. Students from all three OCS high schools began their spring program with a two-day poetry intensive led by the North Carolina Poet Laureate, Orange County's own Jaki Shelton Green. At the April 11 student poetry showcase, local authors — including Ms. Shelton Green — will address the gathering and read from their own works. Students will then present poems they have created and submitted for judging. A new youth poet laureate will be named for each school, and one winner will be crowned as this year's OCS Youth Poet Laureate.
