OCS Stars of Education

Due to limited parking, school teams* will report to their home schools starting at 7:30 a.m. and arrive to at Cedar Ridge High School using bus transportation. Please view the following schedule: 

• 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.: School staff arrive at school sites to board buses.
• 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.: Buses will transport staff to CRHS and drop off attendees at the bus parking lot, to enter by the auditorium.
• 8:45 a.m.: Opening session begins.
• 3:45 p.m.: Teams load buses at CRHS to return to school sites.

*Presenters will be provided a parking pass and are admitted to park on site in CRHS student parking, to enter by the gymnasium.
*Staff with mobility issues can email Mariah Morris (mariah.morris@orange.k12.nc.us) for a parking pass to park onsite.
*Supervisors will communicate to staff members who are not required to stay the full day. These staff members should park onsite. 

All participants will register for choice sessions using SCHED, our online conference platform. Registration is first come, first serve, so we encourage staff to sign up early to secure their top session choices. Choice sessions are capped at 30 participants. 
 

In addition to registering, participants will use SCHED to:

• View session descriptions and room locations
• Access any available session materials
• Complete conference feedback survey to receive CEU credit

A free lunch will be provided to all conference attendees by our amazing School Nutrition Services staff! Please review the menu prior to the conference. Conference attendees are also welcome to bring their own lunch.

• Salsa, Sour Cream, Guacamole

Conference participants will receive 1.0 CEUs for full-day conference attendance. 

Conference presenters will receive an additional .3 CEUs. 

All staff must complete the conference evaluation via SCHED in order to receive CEUs.

All Orange County Schools staff are required to attend starting with the opening session — from teachers and instructional assistants to administrators, counselors, office staff, bus drivers, and maintenance personnel. Everyone plays a role in supporting student success, and this conference honors that by offering relevant learning opportunities for staff in all areas of OCS.

The OCS Stars of Education conference will be held on Monday, August 18, which is a required Teacher Workday. 

Sessions are led primarily by OCS educators and staff who share their knowledge, experience, and best practices with their peers. We believe the best professional learning happens when educators learn from one another.

There were also be sessions from our respected state partners such as the NC Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI), The Hill Center, and the Public School Forum.

Yes! Participants will have the opportunity to earn CEUs. In order to receive CEU credit, you must check-in using SCHED on the morning of the conference and complete the conference feedback survey at the end of the conference. There will be QR codes posted at the conference for you to scan in order to check-in using SCHED.

There will be paper copies of sign-in sheets at the required job-alike sessions that attendees can use to check-in if SCHED isn’t working on their phones.
