RECOGNITIONS
Pride Month
Pride Month is a time to celebrate and uplift the LGBTQIA+ community, honoring their rich history, contributions, and continued fight for equality. The month-long observance traces its origins to the Stonewall Uprising in New York City, a pivotal event that took place in June 1969 and sparked the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement.
The Board paused here to read an updated resolution for Pride Month, which was placed on the Consent Agenda for approval.
Kim Freeman - Hillsborough Arts Council and Mary & David Knox - Margaret Lane Art Gallery
Mrs. Lori Shepley, Visual Art IB teacher at Cedar Ridge High School, invited to Board to recognize local gallery owners and operators whose ongoing generosity and support have made a lasting impact on dozens of students in the International Baccalaureate program at Cedar Ridge High School. By thoughtfully engaging with each student and exhibiting their artwork for the entire community, they have helped nurture the next generation of artists and many other students who do not pursue art professionally. Their openness, flexibility, and commitment to arts education are a powerful testament to the strength of community partnerships.
CONSENT AGENDA
The Board approved Consent Agenda items, including meeting minutes, personnel report, contracts, budget amendments, academic calendars for the 2026-2027 school year, updated Pride Month resolution, and policies referred by the committee for approval by the full Board.

Math Curriculum Contracts: Coherent Math Grades (9-12) (item removed from consent)
To support the goals of the Orange County Schools (OCS) district strategic plan, it’s important to identify reputable core curriculum resources that are evidence based and promote focus, coherence and rigor in math instruction at the elementary and middle grades (K-8) as well as high school (9-12).
Chief Academic Officer Dr. Julie Pack and Executive Director of Secondary Education Dr. Chris Gammon took questions from the Board about the math curriculum presented for approval by the Board after numerous opportunities for staff and the public to share input and a thorough review by school and district staff.
