OCS Remote Learning Day Monday, January 26, 2026 - Facilities Closed
Monday, January 26, 2026 will be a Remote Learning Day for Orange County Schools.
This is a school day with students learning at home, but all schools and facilities are closed. All athletics and after-school activities are canceled.
Snow and ice are expected to continue falling in our area Sunday night, and cold temperatures will continue through much of this week. For the safety of all students, staff, families, and our community, OCS will use one of five (5) Remote Learning Days for this school year on Monday.
A decision for Tuesday will be announced as early as possible on Monday.
What Is the Plan?
Each school in Orange County Schools has shared the plan for Remote Learning with families by email and their school websites. Here are some basics:
- Attendance will count on a Remote Learning Day based on students completing assigned work. Students have at least five (5) days after we return to school to submit work and be counted as present for the school day.
- Learning for all students in kindergarten through twelfth grade (K-12) will be “asynchronous.” Students are not expected to attend class all day or at specific times to be counted as present and participate in learning.
- All teachers at every grade level have shared contact information and will be available to support students in two different two-hour blocks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
- Elementary students will not need computers, and packets have been sent home.
- Middle and high school students will access assignments through Chromebooks which they should have at home with chargers.
What If I Need Help?
If you have questions or need support during a Remote Learning Day:
- Contact your child’s teacher. Use email or other platforms (such as Class Dojo) to contact your child’s teacher directly.
- Call your child’s school. Phone lines will be monitored, and schools will answer voicemails as soon as possible.
- In case of Chromebook issues:
- Click here to request help with a student Chromebook.
- Note: OCS Technology cannot provide support for personal devices or issues with internet or WiFi access.
- You can also email TechHelp@orange.k12.nc.us (include school name and a description of the problem) or call 919-245-4014 (Mon–Fri, 7AM to 5PM) for assistance on a Remote Learning Day.
Please remember, we will announce a decision for Tuesday as early as possible on Monday. Most importantly, we hope you and your family stay safe in this winter weather!
