Schools Closed Wednesday, February 4, 2026 - Optional Workday for Staff

On Wednesday, February 4, OCS will be CLOSED for students. It is an optional workday for staff. 

Road Conditions

Please know that we continue to work with the NC DOT to identify secondary roads that require treatment. At this time, icy conditions are still affecting many of our secondary roads that are not US or NC highways. These roads are not just driven by our buses, but also by our student drivers, our families, and our staff, many of whom travel from areas where roads also remain hazardous. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Ready, Set, Kindergarten!

Join us Thursday, February 5, at the OC Sportsplex for “Ready, Set, Kindergarten!” to jumpstart the journey into kindergarten with your child turning 5 years old by August 31, 2026. Drop in any time between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Meet our helpful teams and pick up resources to help you and your child get enrolled and prepare for a great school year starting in August.

Strategic Plan Listening Sessions

Our Neighborhood Listening Session in Efland has been moved to February 10. A convening primarily in Spanish will take place at New Hope Elementary School on February 12. All listening sessions are from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Learn more here and join us!

Rising Ninth Grade Tours and Family Nights

Rising Ninth Grade tours for eighth graders and family nights at Cedar Ridge High School and Orange High School are being rescheduled due to inclement weather. Stay tuned for messages from your child’s school about tours and family nights at your child’s future school.

Remember that February 16 has been added as a student day. The revised 2025-2026 calendars and new 2026-2027 calendars are all posted online at orangecountyfirst.com/calendar. You will also find text-only versions of our calendars for ease of reading and for anyone with visual impairments.
