Cybersecurity Update, February 6, 2025

Dear Orange County Schools Community,

PowerSchool is now notifying individuals who may have been impacted by the recent data breach, and their credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian have gone live.

The deadline is May 30, 2025 for current and former students, families, and staff to register for two years of complimentary (free) identity protection services offered by PowerSchool.

If you have not received an email from PowerSchool but think you may have been impacted, please visit this incident page at PowerSchool with frequently asked questions for current and former students, families, and staff of schools whose data was stored in PowerSchool. This page continues to be updated with new information that may help you secure your personal information, as well as the personal information of anyone under 18 years old.

PowerSchool is sending notification emails to those impacted by their cybersecurity incident using the email address Ps-sis-incident@mail.csid.com. Looking for this address may help you determine that any notification you receive is genuine, and may also help you locate any messages filtered by your email provider.

PowerSchool and NCDPI have stated that “there is nothing that NCDPI or any of our schools could have done to avoid this cybersecurity incident.” OCS remains unable to advise whether any individual’s data has been compromised, but we can confirm that no other OCS systems were affected by the cybersecurity incident at PowerSchool.
