English Language Development Recognition Award (ERA) Given to Audrey Vinson

Congratulations to Audrey Vinson, New Hope Elementary School English Language Development (ELD) Specialist, for being chosen to receive the OCS English Language Development Recognition Award (ERA)! Mrs. Vinson will submit a portfolio to be considered for the North Carolina ERA which will be presented during the Growing Success for Multilingual Learners Conference in June.

Here’s why Mrs. Vinson was nominated for by her principal and fellow specialists in ELD, or English as a Second Language (ESL):

“She consistently demonstrates an unwavering commitment to multilingual learners, reflected in her remarkably high ACCESS exit rates, incredible outcomes in student growth, and her focused, results-driven instruction.

“She works collaboratively with her grade-level teams to seamlessly integrate ELD best practices into daily classroom instruction, ensuring language development is embedded across content areas and that students are gaining practice in writing, speaking, listening and reading comprehension.

“Audrey thoughtfully crafts rigorous writing lessons and innovative cross-curricular, project-based learning experiences, and she has shared this in conferences at both the state and national level.

“As a leader in her PLC and a trusted mentor teacher, she models effective strategies during staff meetings, partners tirelessly with colleagues, and remains deeply embedded in classrooms to support instructional models that best serve ML (Multilingual Learner) students.”

“She never hesitates to share resources she creates or strategies she employs to help me and other colleagues in our district. She has directly influenced my own teaching and made me more successful as an ELD teacher.”

North Carolina launched the English Language Development Recognition Award (ERA) in the 2023-2024 school year as a way to honor the contributions of NC Public Schools ESL/ELD Teachers who have demonstrated excellence in their practice. Congratulations again, Mrs. Vinson!
