February is Love the Bus Month: Celebrating OCS Bus Drivers

February is “Love the Bus Month,” and this week we’re paying special attention to our Orange County Schools bus drivers during Bus Driver Appreciation Week!

OCS has an outstanding team of over 60 drivers who are dedicated to our students, transporting over 3500 riders to and from school safely every day. School bus drivers are the first and last school staff that many students interact with everyday, and the relationships and trust developed are essential to this operation.

Here In Orange County Schools, across the state, and nationwide, the yellow school bus is a sign of community, safety, and our shared commitment to putting students first. Pupil transporters are crucial to the academic success of students by ensuring that our students arrive in school ready to learn and get home safely every day.

Take Kay McPherson and Sam McBroom for example, two of our most experienced drivers. Ms. Kay has 47 years of experience and Mr. McBroom 52 years (30 of those here in Orange County Schools!). Their experience and expertise are just part of what makes our team of drivers so special!

We love our bus drivers – not just today, not just this week – but all year long! As we celebrate our school bus drivers, please join us… Thank you drivers, we appreciate you!
