Happy Black History Month
Every February, we celebrate Black History Month — a month-long celebration and recognition of the contributions, achievements, and perseverance of Black individuals throughout history. We also take the time to reflect and pay tribute to those who paved the way for progression and fought for equality.
Initially recognized as Black History Week by Dr. Carter G. Woodson to coincide with the birthdays of two influential figures in Black History — President Abraham Lincoln (2/12) and abolitionist Fredrick Davis (2/14) — in 1976 this time of celebration and reflection was extended to the entire month.
Throughout Black History Month, we celebrate resilient leaders of the past, present, and future and the ongoing fight for justice and equality.
On Thursday, February 27, the OCS Family Academy will be hosting the Black History Student Expo at Orange High School - celebrating the joy and excellence of Black History in a night you won't want to miss!
