OCS Night of Poetry, Thursday, April 9!

Join us for the Fourth Annual OCS Night of Poetry at Cedar Ridge High School (J Wing) on Thursday, April 9, starting at 6:00 p.m.  

Students from all three OCS high schools began this year's poetry program with a two-day poetry intensive on February 11 and 12, led by the North Carolina Poet Laureate, Orange County's own Jaki Shelton Green. Since then, these students have been crafting and polishing new works in community with their fellow writers, both in poetry clubs and in academic classes. 

At the April 9 student poetry showcase, acclaimed local authors—including Ms. Shelton Green—will address the gathering and read from their own works. Students will then present original poems they have created and submitted for judging.

A new youth poet laureate will be named for each high school, and one of the three winners will be crowned as this year's OCS Youth Poet Laureate.

Celebrating poetry doesn't end here—during the next year, participating students will visit other schools and community gatherings, to engage students and the community through their love of poetry and to share their unique voices as individual writers. We hope you will join us for the event in the J wing at Cedar Ridge High School on April 9!
