Orange High School Teacher Alexis Cates named CTE NCCAT Teacher of the Year
Recognized for her leadership, high expectations for her students, and dedication to her work, Orange High School Agriculture Teacher Alexis Cates has been named North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year for Orange County Schools!
To be nominated by their peers, eligible CTE Teachers must have taught in North Carolina for at least five years and shown outstanding passion for their work and their students. This is the fourth year this award has been given in OCS, and the first time for an Orange High School CTE teacher.
Described by her peers as an excellent leader inside and outside of the classroom, Cates received high marks and will submit a portfolio for the state award. All 24 finalists will participate in a full week of professional development and a round of interviews before NCCAT names their next CTE Teacher of the Year!
“I am truly honored to receive the NCCAT Teacher of the Year award for our county. I’m lucky to have incredible students, supportive coworkers, a great principal and an amazing CTE director who all help make this the best job,” she said. “Helping students learn about agriculture, understand where their food comes from and build skills in the woodshop is what makes this job so important to me.”
Please join us in celebrating Ms. Alexis Cates for her outstanding work for students in Orange County Schools and this great achievement! Stay tuned for more updates.
