Three OCS Educators Receive Couch Oil Cares "Fueling Education" Teacher Grant

What would you do with an extra $1,000 for your classroom?

Starting this year, teachers were invited by the “Couch Oil Cares” program to share their vision for such an award, and three Orange County Schools educators are among the first-ever winners of a “Fueling Education” Teacher Grant worth $1,000!

Couch Oil Company, located in Durham, established @couchoilcares to support education in Central North Carolina, including Chatham, Durham, Granville, Person, Wake, and Orange Counties.

Coach Oil Cares has provided students with scholarships since 2015. This marks the first year for the “Fueling Education” Teacher Grant program, open to classroom teachers and support staff who hold a North Carolina K-12 Educator License to help them purchase instructional materials and supplies.

Congratulations to Avery Pipkin of Cedar Ridge High School (CRHS),  Jasmine Parrish of Efland-Cheeks Global Elementary School (ECGE), and Lauren Maher of New of Hope Elementary School (NHE) for being among the 24 recipients of the first-ever teacher grant from Couch Oil Cares!

In each educator’s grant application, they described how the supplies they requested would align with their school’s goals and enhance student learning.

Avery Pipkin, woodworking teacher at CRHS, proposed adding a new lathe to his classroom, a woodshop with professional grade equipment. With 20 students all waiting their turn to use five existing lathes in a class period, every new woodturning device will make a difference.

The image shows four people standing together outdoors, with a woman in the center holding a certificate or document. The background includes trees and a building, suggesting an outdoor setting.

Jasmine Parrish applied for an opportunity to purchase Lakeshore Learning sets in order to enhance literacy and writing instruction for her kindergarten students at ECGE

At NHE, Lauren Maher applied for this grant to promote lifelong health and fitness through enhanced physical education by purchasing Sport and Physical Education (SHAPE) Equipment.

Thank you Couch Oil Cares and Couch Oil Company for supporting our educators and students!
