  • OCS Board Approves October Return for Preschool and Exceptional Children 

    The Orange County Board of Education approved the return to school for preschool and exceptional children on October 27. After a series of motions, it was decided at the September 29 meeting for all Exceptional Children (EC) self-contained students and preschool students to return for the start of the second nine weeks (October 27); small groups of students in all remaining grades will return Under Plan B with the start of the second semester (in January 2021).

  • Statement from OCS Board of Education

    Yesterday afternoon, Governor Cooper made a surprise announcement that public school districts across North Carolina can consider reopening schools under Plan A for all K-5 students effective October 5th. We appreciate that the Governor has given local school districts additional flexibility with this latest Executive Order, which allows local Boards to decide to operate under Plans A, B, or C.

  • September 18 is the Deadline for the First Student SEL Survey

    The last day for students to complete the first of three SEL (Social & Emotional Learning) surveys is Friday, September 18. The purpose of this SEL survey is to collect baseline data that will inform each school’s and the district’s work as we continue to support students’ SEL growth and development.

  • Please Return School Lunch Forms

    You will receive a free and/or reduced meal form for the 2020-2021 school year in the mail. While we are currently not in our school buildings, it is extremely important that this form is filled out and returned to us.

    At the September 14 Board of Education meeting, the OCS Board approved the Resolution for the Board’s Next Steps towards Equity in Education in OCS as acknowledgement of persistent racial intolerance, inequities and academic disparities in our district as defined by OCS Policy 1030.

    These options are meant to safely support students’ educational and academic success, while also supporting our families’ financial security by going to work. We are working with the Orange County Health Department to launch our Supervised Learning Labs to accomplish these goals.

  • OCS Board Extends Remote Learning to the First Nine Weeks

    This week the Board of Education approved a recommendation to start the new school year under Plan C - fully remote for nine weeks. All of our students will start the year fully remote and will receive all instruction online for the first nine weeks. This includes students enrolled in the Virtual Academy and those who will eventually return to school for in-person instruction when it is safe to do so.

  • Superintendent Recommends Starting Remotely & Virtual Academy Info Sessions

    “In order to take every precaution for our students and staff, I will recommend to the Board of Education that we reopen under Plan C (closed with remote learning) for the first four weeks of school. After that, we will look at the data, and in partnership with the Orange County Department of Health and Human Services and our community, we will reassess our plans,” said Dr. Monique Felder, OCS Superintendent.

  • OCS Athletics Postponed - COVID-19 July 3, 2020

    Due to growing concerns about the spread of COVID-19 in North Carolina, the Orange County Schools’ (OCS) Athletics Committee, consisting of principals, athletic directors, athletic trainers, and district leaders, have made the difficult decision to postpone the start of voluntary athletic summer workouts.

  • Summer Learning Opportunities

    The district’s Remote Learning website contains numerous opportunities to keep students learning all summer. Students can access content at any grade level or content that is of interest to them.   • Weekend Meals Available for OCS Students

    Beginning June 19, OCS will provide weekend meal boxes to any students/children who are present at our Friday meal pick-up or drop-off sites. No reservation or registration is required.
