Dear Orange County Schools Families,
Please remember that Wednesday, November 22 to Friday, November 24, all OCS schools and facilities will be closed to the public, with no school for all staff and students. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday!
OCS Equity Events
On Thursday, November 16, community members attended a screening of “The 1619 Project” and panel discussion at Orange High School, moderated by OCS Chief Equity Officer Lee A. Williams, II, featuring former OCS Teacher of the Year Victoria Mattison, teacher assistant Michael O’Hagerty, teacher Xavier Adams, and students Julian Rios and Tia Hilber.
On Monday, November 20, all community members, educators, parents, students, guardians, and caregivers are also invited to a virtual Zoom panel from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. to elevate courageous conversations, navigate discomfort, and cultivate awareness around issues of race.
The November 20 event will be moderated by the OCS Student Engagement, Equity, and Support department. After 30-45 minutes of discussion, there will be a 15-minute question & answer session. Microphones and cameras will be disabled (using a webinar format), and participants will be able to submit written questions to moderators.

Orange Partnership Event, November 8
Thank you to Orange Partnership for Alcohol and Drug-Free Youth, for working with OCS Family Academy! On November 8, students and community leaders spoke with parents about what influences teens to use substances, and how families can help combat the trends to keep all children safe.
Special shout-out to Vidya Kasthuri, a junior at Orange High School and ADAPT intern, who brought research and students' perspectives to this important conversation with OCS families. See the meeting video to learn more, and read and share the slide presentation.
Band and Chorus Announcements

OHS Bands Fundraiser Store: The Orange High School Band has opened their Dewey's Holiday Fundraiser Store at Tanger Outlets, benefiting OHS Bands! Dates & Hours of Operation: Now through Dec. 24: Monday - Saturday, 10 am - 8 pm, Sunday, 1 pm - 6 pm. Check out the attached flyer!
OHS Bands VIP Seating Raffle: Orange High School Band is holding a Raffle for VIP Seating at the Holiday parade. Great seating, a parking spot, and snacks! The raffle closes November 28 at 8:00 p.m., and the winner will be contacted on December 1. All proceeds benefit OHS Panther Bands. Check out the attached flyer. Register for the raffle here.
CRHS Madrigals: Join Cedar Ridge High School Choirs for a festive feast full of hilarity, song, and holiday cheer! The 17th Annual CRHS Madrigal Dinner will be held December 15th and 16th at 6:30 p.m. at Cedar Ridge High School. Tickets include a three-course meal and must be purchased in advance. PRISM Concert is Coming to Orange High School: Do not miss this seasonal treasure on Saturday, December 9th at 1:00 p.m.! Tickets are $5. The program features a whirlwind of musical ensembles from A.L. Stanback, Gravelly Hill, Orange Middle, Cedar Ridge and Orange High performing your Holiday favorites! Proceeds from the event support OCS musical programs to bring in clinicians before MPA events, so every ticket makes a difference.
Parade Volunteers
The Hillsborough Chamber is planning the Holiday Parade on Sunday, December 3rd from 4:00-6:00 pm, followed by the Hillsborough Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:00 pm. We are excited to see many of our students, staff, and families participate! Here is a message from the Hillsborough Chamber with a call for volunteers:
Volunteers will be needed from 1:30 pm until the conclusion of the parade, though some will be finished sooner. The parade kicks off at 4:00 pm and concludes around 6:00 pm, followed by the Town tree lighting ceremony. Click here to learn more and register for opportunities to volunteer for yourself or your student organization.
Teen and adult volunteers are needed to help with tasks such as checking in and lining up floats, monitoring restricted parking areas, answering questions, coordinating parade participant entrance and exits, picking up litter after the parade, and other tasks as needed. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age or older in order to volunteer without a parent. Youth that would like to volunteer who are under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent. Questions? Voluntarios para el Desfile
La Cámara de Hillsborough está planeando el Desfile Navideño el domingo 3 de diciembre de 4:00 a 6:00 pm, seguido por la Ceremonia de Iluminación del Árbol de Hillsborough a las 6:00 pm. ¡Estamos emocionados de ver a muchos de nuestros estudiantes, personal y familias participar! Aquí hay un mensaje de la Cámara de Hillsborough con un llamado para voluntarios:
Se necesitarán voluntarios desde la 1:30 pm hasta la conclusión del desfile, aunque algunos terminarán antes. El desfile comienza a las 4:00 pm y concluye alrededor de las 6:00 pm, seguido de la ceremonia de iluminación del árbol de la Ciudad. Se necesitan voluntarios adolescentes y adultos para ayudar en tareas como registrar y alinear las carrozas, vigilar las zonas de estacionamiento restringido, responder preguntas, coordinar la entrada y salida de los participantes en el desfile, recoger la basura después del desfile y otras tareas necesarias. Los voluntarios deben tener al menos 14 años de edad o más para ser voluntarios sin uno de sus padres.
