As the holiday season approaches, students' schedules will be altered, especially this week in Orange County Schools! Find your students' school to find news, events and updates for this week and please be sure to pay attention to dates!
District Schedule Updates:

All traditional school students will have school on Monday, Nov. 20 and Tuesday, Nov. 21
-
Students will NOT have school from Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Friday, Nov. 23 for the Thanksgiving Holiday as schools will be closed.

School will resume on Monday, Nov. 27 for a full five-day week for students

HES will be participating in the Hillsborough Holiday Parade again this year on Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. and all families are welcome to join!

Giving Tree
-
The Giving Tree opened on Nov. 13 and each number represents a wish item o a clothing item for a student in need.

The Giving Tree will now be completely remote and you can adopt a numbered tag through the provided link. Only adults should sign up through the provided link. All items should be dropped off during morning and afternoon drop off, by Monday, December 11th. Donations of Walmart or grocery store gift cards are also appreciated. Ms. Swayne, the School Social Worker, is available to help families select wish items through phone or email. miyesha.swayne@orange.k12.nc.us

Turkey Trot
-
Come join the Hillsborough Running club on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 23rd for their annual turkey trot! This free event is for kids and adults of all ages, but those 12 and younger will receive a medal!

The 1 mile turkey chase begins at 8:00 a.m. by the Weaver Street Riverwalk entrance. The 5k begins at 8:30 a.m.

Hillsborough running club will be collecting donations of canned and dry goods for the OCIM to serve families in our community. Sightings of a very special turkey are likely!

RPES Holiday Concert and Art Show

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will be performing on Monday, Dec. 4
-
3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be performing on Tuesday, Dec. 5
-
Each concert will be held at the New Horizon Church on Highway 70 at 6:30 p.m.

Holiday Pet Food Drive

The Paws4Orange club, located at Orange High School, is setting up their annual holiday pet food drive! This will run from November 22nd to January 3rd, and donation boxes will be set up throughout various schools and businesses around Hillsborough, including River Park, starting on Monday! Look out for these boxes, and please donate! All the proceeds will be donated to local animal shelters. Some items these shelters value greatly are: canned pet food, bags of pet food, cleaning supplies, and towels. Thank you to our OHS tutors for bringing this charity to RPES this year.

OHS Band Fundraiser - Dewey’s Store
-
The Orange High School Band's annual Dewey's Pop Up Store is underway! This year's store is located at the Tanger Outlets in Mebane, near Old Navy. Take care of your holiday shopping, and stop by Dewey's to pick up some treats and goodies as well! The Dewey’s store is also taking fresh orders for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Orders are due November 20th, and pickup is November 22nd, 2:00 - 8:00 pm. See the fresh order catalog at this link for options (including pies, tarts, bread, pastries, cake, and more). Come by the store at Tanger to place your order. All orders are prepaid. It's a great way to support the band and have deliciousness for Thanksgiving!

OHS Band Fundraiser - VIP Parade Seating Raffle
-
The OHS Band Boosters have partnered with the Hillsborough Police Department to raffle off a VIP seating area for this year's Hillsborough Holiday Parade on Dec. 3rd! The lucky winner will receive a prime location to view the parade, hassle-free parking, and snacks during the event! A perfect opportunity for families with young children or elderly parents/grandparents who'd like to enjoy the parade. The raffle closes on Nov. 28th at 8 p.m., and the winner will be notified on Dec. 1. Help spread the word by sharing our raffle flyer and raffle link on social media!

Paws4Orange Club

The Paws4Orange club is setting up its annual holiday pet food drive! This will run from November 22nd to January 3rd, and donation boxes will be set up throughout various schools and businesses around Hillsborough, including: Orange High School, River Park Elementary, Stanback Middle, and To The Pointe Dance Studio. We are working on setting up boxes at: Orange Middle School, Hillsborough Elementary, Gravelly Hill Middle School, Radius Pizza, Weaver Street Market, the Hillsborough Public Library, Subway, Vinny's, and Food Lion. Look out for these boxes, and please donate! All the proceeds will be donated to local animal shelters. Some items these shelters value greatly are: canned pet food, bags of pet food, cleaning supplies (clorox wipes, bleach, etc), and towels.

Eligible seniors have been notified of where and when to report. Successful test-takers will earn a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) and will be entered into a raffle for one of several Amazon gift cards.

8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., there will be a Trades and Industry Career Fair here in Hillsborough featuring employers from each of these companies/organizations looking for interested students (see list below). Please consider attending. See Mr. Montgomery in the Career Center for a permission slip to attend. All grade levels are welcome to attend, but space is limited.
