In addition to the licensed child care options, our team is discussing other safe, in-person program possibilities. These options are meant to safely support students’ educational and academic success, while also supporting our families’ financial security by going to work. We are working with the Orange County Health Department to launch our Supervised Learning Labs to accomplish these goals. We’re including information about the possible programs below.
We are hoping to launch Phase 1 of our Supervised Learning Labs on August 24. Phase 1 will take place at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA. Up to 50 K-8 students can take part in two separate program options:
All-day program: lasts from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; cost is $197 per week
Academic program: lasts from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; cost is $120 per week
Phase 2 of Supervised Learning Labs would begin on August 31 and last until September 14. We are exploring the possibility of using off-school-site locations for this, including: Chestnut Ridge Camp, United Methodist Churches and Cedar Grove Ruritan Club. Up to 20 K-5 students may take part in the program, which lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (an all-day program) and is $197 per week.
Phase 3 of Supervised Learning Labs would begin September 21 and last until October 5. We are exploring the possibility of using OCS school locations for this phase. Up to 30 K-5 students may take part in the program, which lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (an all-day program) and is $197 a week.
We will share more information if these programs are approved, the safety measures we are taking if they are, and how families can sign up as soon as we have it.
