- Orange County School District
OCS wins 9 Blue Ribbon Awards from statewide professional organization!
One of our district’s priorities continues to be a commitment to communication and family engagement. Orange County Schools was one of 41 districts across North Carolina to be recognized for excellence by the NC School Public Relations Association for the 2019-2020 school year.
Orange County Schools received seven Silver- and two Bronze-level Blue Ribbon Awards for submissions from the 2019-2020 school year, up until the cut-off date of October 2020.
For outstanding storytelling and effective messages--from the classroom to the board room, AND with a global pandemic demanding shifts in operations on a daily basis--Orange County Schools continues to shine for its innovative ways to engage with students and families! This was all possible through the team efforts and collaboration among many district departments, school sites, and outstanding leaders!
Each of our high schools were recognized with 3 awards apiece for their efforts in celebrating the Class of 2020 graduates. Congratulations to the leadership at Partnership Academy and Orange and Cedar Ridge High Schools for their awards in the categories of digital media engagement and special events and programs. Another recognition came to our IT department for their support of the 2020 Graduation Live Stream Videos, which was honored with an award in the category of digital media engagement.
OCS was also honored with two excellence in writing awards. Dr. Felder received an award for “OCS Commitment to Equity, Excellence, and Access” and Dr. Dena Keeling and Ms. Amanda Bunch received writing honors for the monthly Equity Warrior feature articles.
Finally, the OCS Family Liaisons, under the leadership of Mrs. Sandra Blefko, initiated several new programs in 2020 including our Parent Academy sessions in English, Spanish, Karen, and Burmese. This team received a Blue Ribbon Award in digital media engagement for the OCS Parent Academies.
Ken Derksen, NCSPRA President and the Communications & Public Relations Officer for Wayne County Public Schools, said the work of the award winners exemplifies the high standards and qualities members demonstrate in their daily school communications programs.
"Blue Ribbon Awards are among the highest and most prestigious honors that a member of our organization can attain,” Derksen said. “I congratulate Orange County Schools for achieving this statewide recognition as a Blue Ribbon Award winner and for the superior work being accomplished in the area of school communications and public relations.”
Each year, the Georgia School Public Relations Association serves as judges for this awards program.
