Ms. Michelle Fournier has been named Principal of the new OCS Online Academy, effective immediately.

The Orange County Board of Education approved the administrative change for our virtual school at its September 13, 2021 Work Session.

"I have truly enjoyed getting to know our students and families these past few months,” said Ms. Fournier.  “I am thrilled and honored to support them as we continue in the inaugural year of OCS Online Academy! Our community is so bright, creative, and hard-working, and I can't wait to see what we accomplish!

Ms. Fournier is a veteran teacher, digital learning coach and administrator for OCS. She knows our OCS community, our staff, and our educational programs, all very well.

Having completed her own master’s degree in school administration as a remote learner during the pandemic, she is very familiar with the experiences and challenges of learning at home. And her work as a principal intern at A.L. Stanback Middle and Orange Middle schools have prepared her to lead and support learning and growth in an online environment.

Ms. Fournier said she is most looking forward to getting feedback from OCS Online Academy students about what they want the virtual school to be.

“We have such a unique opportunity to develop who we are as a brand-new school,” she said. “We get to do the fun stuff of creating a mascot, motto, and vision. Additionally, we get to shape our program to what students need and want, determine what is working and what is not, and make the needed adjustments. The potential and energy that I have already seen from our students are amazing, and it is not every day that a school leader gets to use that to build the community and culture of a school!

Ms. Fournier currently resides in Durham, North Carolina, with her two children, ages 14 and 11, who also attend Orange County Schools, two dogs, and two cats. She enjoys cooking, crocheting, listening to music, and spending time in nature in her free time.

Ms. Fournier holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a concentration in Education Studies from Guilford College and a Master of Education degree in Instructional Technology from NC State University.
