Please join us in welcoming two new administrators to the OCS team!

Jeffrey Batten

Dr. Jeffrey Batten is the new Assistant Principal at Cedar Ridge High School. He comes to us from Granville County Public Schools where he served as assistant principal at South Granville High School. He has 17-and-a-half years of experience in education.

Dr. Batten holds a PhD in microbiology & plant pathology and was a research scientist prior to becoming a school teacher. While in graduate school, he gained experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students. He then spent 15 years as a middle school science teacher and was an assistant principal for two-and-a-half years in his former school district.

Dr. Batten said, “I am excited to work in a progressive district and a progressive high school where students and staff have many opportunities to explore and grow.”

Welcome to Cedar Ridge High and Orange County Schools, Dr. Batten! We are happy to have you.

Joshua Young

Mr. Joshua Young joined the ropes at Orange High School as Dean of Students. He comes to us from the Alamance-Burlington School System where he was Chair of the EC Department for Broadview Middle School. He has about 10 years of K-12 experience.

Mr. Young’s career in education began at the University of Illinois and, later, at Duke University here in Durham. After several years teaching a variety of graduate-level seminars, hosting lectures, and leading programs designed to teach graduate students how to teach, he transitioned to K-12 public education. Mr. Young has taught high school social studies, English and language arts, and special education.

He said, “I am excited about the comprehensive, holistic nature of my new position. I am passionate about partnering with students, faculty, and staff to position students to succeed, reach their potential, and break out of paradigms that hold them back, and these are the very things I will be able to focus on in my new role.”

Welcome, Mr. Young! We look forward to seeing the impact you will bring to the students of Orange High School.
