Cedar Ridge Student Council organizes “We Stand with Ukraine” fundraisers
The Student Council of Cedar Ridge High School spearheaded the idea of having student clubs and other organizations come together to support humanitarian aid for Ukrainians.
Students and staff welcomed guidance from Volodymyr Babchenko, one of their teachers, a Ukrainian immigrant and U.S. citizen. Together, they organized the “We Stand with Ukraine” fundraiser events.
Efforts started with the Red Cross Club selling t-shirts. A club member’s parent works at TRT Classics, a custom t-shirt company. This company agreed to donate over 300 t-shirts. This club has been selling shirts for $10 and 100% of the money is going towards humanitarian aid. To date, they have raised just over $3,000. With the other scheduled events and sales, our friends at CRHS are hoping to raise $5,000.
All proceeds will be donated to Direct Relief, a charity organization that partners with Ukraine’s Ministry of Health to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. For more about the efforts by the Cedar Ridge Red Wolves, see below:
Ukrainian flags: The Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) club is selling small Ukraine flags. An anonymous donor associated with this club has agreed to match each sale, dollar for dollar! The Student Council is hosting a yard sale, and there is an art showcase and auction.
STOP the War in Ukraine Art Showcase and Auction: Students have been encouraged to submit a two-dimensional, or three-dimensional original piece of artwork such as paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, photographs, sculpture, poetry and more to be displayed in the J-Wing commons from April 16-19. An auction will be held immediately following the CRHS band’s performance of Kyiv 2022 during the Spring Band Concert on May 19th at 6:30 PM.
Yard Sale and Silent Auction: The Student Council has been collecting donations for a yard and silent auction. The yard sale will be held at Cedar Ridge on Saturday, May 28th from 10 AM - 2 PM. And a silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses will also take place there.
Night at the Ridge Fun Run: Energizing beats will carry you around the course during the “Night at the Ridge Fun Run” race, which is open to all abilities, ages, and skill levels–whether you dance, walk, jog, or run. Food trucks will be on hand and festival activities will be available to provide family-friendly fun at this event on Saturday, May 28th from 4 pm - 10 pm.
Monetary Donations: In-person cash donations will be accepted at all of the events, the front office, J-wing commons, and Mr. Babchenko’s room (B208). Electronic donations will be collected through GoFan. You can donate using a credit or debit card by purchasing tickets in multiples of $1, $5, $10, or $20 to reach your desired level of giving.
Key Club Talent Show and Lip Sync Battle: Key Club will be hosting its annual “Talent Show & Lipsync Battle” on June 1. Possible acts include magic, singing, stand-up, dancing, glow-in-the-dark shadow puppets, and more!
