Board adjusts school calendars for the 2022-2023 school year

Revised School Calendars for 2022-2023

OCS previously established 2022-2023 school calendars for all of our Traditional Schools and for our one Year-Round School, Hillsborough Elementary School (HES). These calendars were first approved in February, and have now been revised to allow for the following key adjustments:  

  1. November 8, Election Day 2022, schools will be closed.  This will be a teacher Workday.
  2. The last day of school for the school year will be a three-hour early dismissal for all students. 
  3. The approved inclement weather plan we will use in the event of school closings due to severe weather is listed on each calendar.

Here are the Inclement Weather Plans for 2022-2023 as of June 14, 2022:

2022-2023 Inclement Weather Plan for Year Round School (HES):
1st missed day = No Makeup day is needed.
2nd missed day =  No Makeup day is needed.
3rd missed day =  Makeup day will be Monday, May 8.
4th missed day = Makeup day will be Thursday, June 8. 
5th missed day = Makeup day will be Friday, May 5.*

2022-2023 Inclement Weather Plan for Traditional Schools:
1st missed day = No Makeup day is needed.
2nd missed day =  No Makeup day is needed.
3rd missed day =  Makeup day will be Tuesday, January 24.
4th missed day = Makeup day will be Friday, March 24.
5th missed day = Makeup day will be Friday, May 5.*

*Additional makeup days/ times will  be determined at a later date for any number of days or additional time missed after the 5th missed day. This plan will be recommended by the Superintendent and will be presented to the Board of Education for approval.

Please note: North Carolina General Statute 115C-84.3 was rescinded on 6/30/2022 making remote learning no longer an option for inclement weather days.
