Dear OCS Staff, Students, Families, and Community,
As we enter with anticipation into a celebration of thanks and fellowship, this year in particular I have been asking myself and all of us: “What’s going well?” I certainly look forward to being around the table with loved ones for all-time favorites (pass the sweet potato pie, please), but the time spent this fall learning around the table from our students and staff has brought me immense joy that moves me to gratitude that I hope you will share.
I am grateful for our courageous students. This fall is our first in full swing since 2019, and the start of school has been filled with joy! Visiting classrooms, listening in roundtable discussions, watching students attend to the business of learning and growing– I have witnessed students taking on huge challenges to reach their maximum potential. They extend themselves, connect meaningfully with peers and school staff, and expand their horizons from the classroom to the arena to their daily lives. Our children have important things to say, and we have a sacred task to listen intently during this short window we have together.
I am grateful for our dedicated staff. You ensure that our schools are safe, inclusive, and welcoming so each and every young learner can excel in school and in life. Your success is seen in the growth and wellbeing of students who rely on your preparation and vigilance – daily, hourly, down to the minute – to empower them for excellence. You are truly what makes us great, and your service to children inspires and challenges me every single day.
I am grateful for our resilient community. Every day, we rise together to meet ongoing challenges from COVID, limited access to care for mental and physical health, and historic and systemic barriers to opportunity for children. We are continuously inspired by the support that our diverse, vibrant, and beautiful community shows to children and families in Orange County Schools. We are humbled and grateful for your steady presence in children’s lives.
I am grateful for our faithful leadership. From schools to our district and our board, I draw strength from a universal spirit of service and devotion to the future of our community’s children. I am greatly encouraged that our district’s strategic planning is guiding us more and more to be effective and create spaces that engage and challenge our students to be their best every day.
This year has shown us – here at home, and everywhere across our nation – how deeply we depend on each other for our own success and the health and wellbeing of our community. We are all connected, and I am grateful for that!
Let us continually devote our precious time to empowering children, and let us be thankful when every young and beautiful mind grows and excels in search of their brightest possible future. On behalf of all of us, I hope you and yours enjoy a safe and blessed day of thanks.

Estimado personal, estudiantes, familias y comunidad de las Escuelas del Condado de Orange,
Al entrar con anticipación en una celebración de agradecimiento y compañerismo, este año en particular me he estado preguntando a mí mismo y a todos nosotros: "¿Qué va bien?" Ciertamente espero estar alrededor de la mesa con mis seres queridos para los platillos favoritos de todos los tiempos (¡pásame el pastel de batata, por favor!), pero el tiempo pasado este otoño aprendiendo alrededor de la mesa de nuestros estudiantes y personal me ha traído una inmensa alegría que me mueve a la gratitud que espero que compartan.
Estoy agradecida por nuestros valientes estudiantes. Este otoño es el primero en el que estamos a pleno rendimiento desde 2019, ¡y el comienzo de las clases ha estado lleno de alegría! Visitando las aulas, escuchando en las discusiones de mesa redonda, observando a los estudiantes atender el negocio de aprender y crecer - he sido testigo de que los estudiantes asumen enormes desafíos para alcanzar su máximo potencial. Se extienden, se conectan de manera significativa con sus compañeros y el personal de la escuela, y amplían sus horizontes desde el aula hasta la arena y su vida cotidiana. Nuestros niños tienen cosas importantes que decir, y nosotros tenemos la sagrada tarea de escuchar atentamente durante esta breve ventana que tenemos juntos.
Estoy agradecida por la dedicación de nuestro personal. Ustedes garantizan que nuestras escuelas sean seguras, inclusivas y acogedoras para que todos y cada uno de los jóvenes estudiantes puedan sobresalir en la escuela y en la vida. Su éxito se ve en el crecimiento y el bienestar de los estudiantes que dependen de su preparación y vigilancia - diaria, cada hora, hasta el minuto - para capacitarlos para la excelencia. Ustedes son realmente lo que nos hace grandes, y su servicio a los niños me inspira y desafía cada día.
Estoy agradecida por la capacidad de recuperación de nuestra comunidad. Cada día, nos levantamos juntos para hacer frente a los continuos desafíos de COVID, el acceso limitado a la atención de la salud mental y física, y las barreras históricas y sistémicas a las oportunidades para los niños. Estamos continuamente inspirados por el apoyo que nuestra diversa, vibrante y hermosa comunidad muestra a los niños y familias en las escuelas del Condado de Orange. Nos sentimos humildes y agradecidos por su constante presencia en la vida de los niños.
Estoy agradecida por nuestro fiel liderazgo. Desde las escuelas hasta nuestro distrito y nuestra junta, saco fuerzas de un espíritu universal de servicio y devoción al futuro de los niños de nuestra comunidad. Me alienta mucho que la planificación estratégica de nuestro distrito nos guíe cada vez más para ser efectivos y crear espacios que comprometan y desafíen a nuestros estudiantes a ser lo mejor posible cada día.
Este año nos ha mostrado — aquí en nuestra comunidad, y en todas partes de nuestra nación — cuán profundamente dependemos unos de otros para nuestro propio éxito y la salud y el bienestar de nuestra comunidad. Todos estamos conectados, ¡y estoy agradecida por ello!
Dediquemos continuamente nuestro precioso tiempo a empoderar a los niños, y demos gracias cuando cada mente joven y hermosa crezca y sobresalga en busca de su futuro más brillante posible. En nombre de todos nosotros, espero que ustedes y los suyos disfruten de un seguro y bendito día de agradecimiento.
