At-Home Testing

Dear Orange County Schools Families—
In an effort to keep our students safe and healthy, Orange County Schools has received from the NC Department of Health and Human Services free Covid-19 At-Home Testing Kits to send home with every student this week (based on parent preference) to help families “Know Before You Go” back to school. Staff will also receive free At-Home Testing Kits.
Testing kits are optional. Kits are being sent home starting Tuesday, March 21.

If you want an At-Home Testing Kit sent home with your child, you don’t need to do anything. Kits will be sent home from your child’s classroom teacher.

If you do not want an At-Home Testing Kit for your child, simply let your child’s teacher know.
School nurses in Orange County Schools have “Know Before You Go” information available from NCDHHS to help families and staff understand the testing program. This literature will be sent home along with the free At-Home Testing Kits.
What to Do:
We ask all parents who are participating in the optional testing program to conduct the At-Home Tests on both March 28, 2023 and April 2, 2023.

Following the test, please follow the attached protocol if your child tests positive.

Isolation will start immediately on the day the child tests positive and/or is symptomatic.

Notify the school nurse of the positive results by filling out this confidential Google form.

Students that have tested positive (with any COVID test) within the previous 90 days should not test with a PCR test (laboratory test) as they may receive a false positive result. Instead, test with a Rapid At-Home test.

Students who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 must not attend school when we reopen on April 3rd unless cleared to return following the attached protocol and guidance from the school nurse.

Estimadas Familias de las Escuelas del Condado de Orange-
En un esfuerzo por mantener a nuestros estudiantes seguros y saludables, las Escuelas del Condado de Orange han recolectado Kits de Pruebas en el Hogar Covid-19 gratuitos para enviar a casa con cada estudiante esta semana (según la preferencia de los padres) para ayudar a las familias a "Saber Antes de Ir" de regreso a la escuela. El personal también recibirá Kits de Pruebas en el Hogar gratis.
Los kits se enviarán a casa a partir del martes, el 21 de marzo.

Si desea que se le envíe a su hijo un kit de pruebas para hacer en casa, no tiene que hacer nada. Los kits serán enviados a casa por el maestro de su hijo.

Si no desea que su hijo reciba un kit de prueba en casa, simplemente comuníqueselo al maestro de su hijo.
Las enfermeras escolares en las Escuelas del Condado de Orange tienen información " Saber Antes de Ir " disponible de NCDHHS para ayudar a las familias y al personal a entender el programa de pruebas. Esta literatura será enviada a casa junto con los Kits de Pruebas en Casa gratuitos.
Que Hacer:

Los estudiantes que hayan dado positivo (con cualquier prueba COVID) en los 90 días anteriores no deben someterse a una prueba PCR (prueba de laboratorio), ya que pueden recibir un resultado falso positivo. En su lugar, la prueba con una prueba rápida en casa.

Los estudiantes que tienen síntomas consistentes con COVID-19 no deben asistir a la escuela cuando volvamos a abrir el 3 de abril a menos que se les permita regresar siguiendo el protocolo adjunto y la orientación de la enfermera de la escuela.
